Eric Strauss

documentary director and sundance award-winning cinematographer

Eric Strauss has been chasing dramatic, critically-acclaimed stories for 20 years, from the highlands of Papua New Guinea to the front lines of Afghanistan and Iraq. Most recently, Eric’s 3D 360 series This Is Climate Change premiered at the 2018 Tribeca Film Festival. Film Threat gave it “5 out of 5 stars” and said it “brings you so close you can almost smell the corroding environment.”

In 2015 Eric co-created and served as Series Director on Oprah Winfrey’s Belief, a landmark television event The Atlantic called an “epic spiritual series” and “not to be missed.” In 2011 Eric directed the feature documentary The Redemption of General Butt Naked, which premiered at the Sundance Film Festival. The film was hailed as “an extraordinarily complex odyssey” by the LA Times and “lightning in a bottle” by the Hollywood Reporter. It was nominated for an Independent Spirit Award and Best Documentary by the International Documentary Association, and received the Sundance Award for Best Cinematography.

Eric is comfortable tackling any manner of non-fiction film or television, from current affairs and social issues, to intimate character portraits, investigations, expeditions, and branded content. He’s created dozens of films for the world’s top broadcasters including National Geographic, Netflix, Showtime, MSNBC, CNN, Discovery Channel, OWN, History Channel, and Channel 4 (UK).
