Courtney Thompson Hutchens is an Emmy-nominated documentary director, writer and editor based in Brooklyn and Denver. She has nearly 15 years in the industry creating critically acclaimed films, series and commercials.
Her recent work includes the Ron Howard-produced series Mars for the National Geographic Channel. She was a series writer for Oprah Winfrey’s landmark series Belief, and directed and wrote multiple episodes of This is Life with Lisa Ling (CNN) and Our America with Lisa Ling (OWN), which won the International Documentary Association award for Best Episodic Series. For her work on Hard Time (National Geographic Channel), she received an Emmy nomination for writing.
She and her husband, director and cinematographer Peter Hutchens, have created commercial and branded content for clients such as the US Census Bureau, Honest Tea, and Wholesome Sweeteners. Recently, they worked with acclaimed director Malcolm Lee on a series of political ads for ACRONYM’s “Knock the Vote” campaign.
Prior to her work in production, she was the Senior Manager of Development and Regional Production for National Geographic Channels International, where she worked with filmmakers in Asia, South America and the UK to develop hundreds of hours of original programming.
